Visit Farmville at the Iowa State Fair!

Today marks opening day at the Iowa State Fair! I’m looking forward to cotton candy and corn dogs, but I’m also looking forward to visiting the new Farmville display in the Agriculture Building. See details below that were shared in a recent Iowa Soybean Association e-newsletter, and if you’re able to make it to the fair this year, be sure to experience Farmville!

The new Farmville display is a joint effort between the Iowa Department of Agriculture & Land Stewardship and six agriculture commodity groups. “Farmville” will provide visitors with resources and food samples plus it includes a live stage to showcase the important role of agriculture in Iowa.

“As part of our effort to educate fair visitors about Iowa agriculture, we will have a wide variety of presentations and demonstrations on the stage in this new display, including an opportunity to ask a farmer questions each afternoon,” Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey said. “The Iowa State Fair is a great place to learn about all that is happening in Iowa agriculture, and we believe this new display will be a great addition to all the other activities of the fair.”

Each day live on the “Farmville stage” at 9:00 a.m. Northey will speak to fairgoers and answer questions. At 11:00 a.m., visitors will be given the opportunity to play “Battle in the Barn.”  The “Ask a Farmer” session will occur daily at 2:00 p.m. The stage is located on the west side of the Agriculture building.
